Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents

Children
So small hands, tiny fingers on them
One’s never to beat them, otherwise they break
So small feet, with so small toes
One’s never to step on them, otherwise they can’t walk
So small ears, keen and you permit
One’s never to shout at them, otherwise they become deaf
So beautiful mouths, speak everything out
One’s never to forbid it, otherwise nothing comes out of them anymore
So clear eyes which yet see everything
One’s never to bandage, otherwise they can’t understand anything
So small souls, open and totally free
One’s never to torment, otherwise they break apart
Such a small spine, can hardly be seen
One’s never to bow it, otherwise it breaks
Straight clear persons would be a nice aim
People without spine, we’ve already got a lot

Young people and children aren often confronted with a range of problems from family conflicts, separation of partents to unemployment and environmental pollution. Consequently, the feelings of hopelessness, insignificance and despair might increase with every additional problem.

Children and adolescents may then develop anxiety issues, aggressions, further hopelessness and may even turn to drugs and alcohol. It is important in such situations that adults provide support and help the adolescent deal with negative feelings and behaviours and convert them into consstructive feelings. A well trained and experienced psychotherapist can start this development process, support this process and therefore improve the future expectations of the child or teenager.

We all go through difficulties in the process of growing up. However, when problems persist for longer time or start getting worse, as a parent you should consider the possibility that your child or adolescent may be in need of help from a pschotherapist.

The Psychotherapy Center offers the following services for children, teenagers and parents.

Treatment of psychological symptoms such as:

- Post traumatic stress syndrome

-Problems related to dysfunctional family relationships

Bed-Wetting

Behavior therapy with a urine alarm is the treatment of choice for simple bed-wetting. Over 50 years of research supports this claim. A permanent solution to bed-wetting can be expected for about 5 out of every 10 children treated with a urine alarm.

Urine Alarm Treatment
This treatment can be delivered by parents under professional supervision. A battery-powered alarm device is activated when the child wets. Repeatedly waking a child immediately after onset of urination teaches the child to control muscles even during sleep. .
Parents and children need to cooperate to use this treatment. Chances of success are very high with this equipment (called bell and pad) if it is used with a therapist’s help.
